Our Curriculum

Chinakids uses a pragmatic spiral-up approach which enables the student to begin using the language they have acquired immediately.  The system was developed by a team of educators from the United Nations and Columbia University with a mission to provide the best materials and programs to teach the Chinese language and culture to non-native families from ages 2 year and up.

Chinakids is where kids have fun learning Chinese!

Our curriculum is based on an integrated approach to learning Chinese. Listening and speaking skills are emphasized early on.  As each learner progresses, reading and writing are introduced beginning at age 4.

Ample class time is devoted to students' communicative interaction in Chinese, providing opportunities to reinforce their listening and speaking skills. Hanyu Pinyin (a romanized phonetic system) is used as primary tool to facilitate learning.  Our on-line Student Corner provides supplemental learning materials, audio/visual aids and reading exercises. Proficiency and performance are assessed routinely.

Parents are empowered to help their children spend at least 15 to 20 minutes per day 3 times a week, or cumulatively one hour a week, to practice Chinese. This does not mean that parents need to know Chinese, but rather, they need to help their children set aside the time to review Chinese regularly.  We provide on-line interactive tools to help facilitate this process.
